The Perfect Money Piece

The perfect money piece.
It’s a request I get frequently in my chair.
It’s the bright, beautifully blended blonde piece in the front. It makes a statement. And people pay good money for it.
Doing hair is my passion. I love the beauty industry, and making people feel pretty. And I’ve enjoyed the process of learning the best way to create that perfect money piece.
But after years of being behind the chair, do you know what else I’ve learned- besides how to get that perfect money piece?
I’ve learned about humans. More specifically:
I’ve learned that everyone needs connection.
Everyone needs a place where they can express themselves freely, without fear of judgement or shame.
Everyone wants to be heard, listened to, and encouraged.
Everyone on this planet wants to feel accepted and loved.
(These things aren’t as direct as ‘I want a bold money piece!’ But it definitely indirectly enters the chat.)
I’ve made connections with women from all walks of life. And I’ve heard so many struggles-
She could have gone through a tough time, like divorce. Or miscarriage. Or maybe the struggles of motherhood. Or struggles with her weight. Or friends. Or anxiety/depression. Or just simply accepting herself.
But.
Then, at some point, she starts to see the light at the end of the tunnel. She gets this sparkle in her eye, and a very specific excitement in her voice.
She begins to tell me about the garden she’s so excited to plant, finally. Or about going back to school to do a job she loves. Or about finally working out again, and starting to lose that baby weight. Or starting those meds and therapy. Or even leaving that toxic man behind.
I have zero coordination, and have never been an actual cheerleader in my life. But when I tell you that I literally get JUST AS EXCITED for these women as they do for themselves…
I am like, ‘GIRL. GET IT. Tell me allllll the things that are setting your soul on fire right now, because I want to encourage tf out of you. I want to shove you so hard and happily in that direction, that you feel there is no option to go back.’
Truthfully, I could give a shit about gardening.
But it’s not about that.
It’s about seeing a woman going after what lights her up, unapologetically. Excitedly.
Doing hair has been a vessel for me to make other women feel not only beautiful on the outside, but safe, loved, and worthy.
And that’s where the magic lies: When a person is in my chair, a lot of times we both end up pursuing our passions and purposes.
It’s symbiotic.
Beautiful.
And to think it all started with a request for that perfect money piece.
Because money pieces and living your truth are Luxuriously Dope. 🖤
